Preventing Blisters at Airsoft MilSim Events

Question:

How do I prevent blisters during long airsoft milsim events?

Answer:

MilSim events can run anywhere from 24 to 72 hours, meaning your feet, hands, and gear contact points take a serious beating. Preventing blisters comes down to preparation, proper equipment, and smart habits during the event.

Break In Your Boots First Never wear brand-new boots to a MilSim. Spend several weeks breaking them in with progressively longer walks. Tactical boots with proper ankle support are strongly recommended for uneven terrain.

Use Moisture-Wicking Socks Cotton socks trap moisture, which dramatically increases friction and blister formation. Choose synthetic or wool-blend socks designed for extended outdoor activity. Double-layering socks can also reduce friction between your foot and boot.

Apply Anti-Friction Products Body glide sticks, petroleum jelly, or anti-chafe balms applied to known hot spots — heels, toes, and arches — can significantly reduce irritation before it starts.

Address Hot Spots Immediately Carry blister prevention patches or moleskin in your kit. The moment you feel a hot spot developing, treat it right away. Waiting until a blister fully forms makes recovery much harder mid-event.

Check Your Gear Fit Plate carriers, chest rigs, and helmet padding can create pressure sores after hours of wear. Adjust all contact points before the event and use padding where straps meet skin.

Consistent hydration and short rest periods also help your body manage physical stress, reducing overall skin vulnerability during extended operations.
