HPA Tank Regulator Types: SLP vs. Standard

What is the difference between SLP and Standard Output HPA regulators, and which one do I need for my Primary Airsoft adapter?
Answer:
The distinction lies in the output pressure delivered to your air line. Standard Output regulators typically deliver 800–850 PSI, mimicking the pressure of a traditional CO2 or high-pressure nitrogen tank. SLP (Super Low Pressure) regulators drop that to roughly 300–450 PSI directly at the tank.
For almost every airsoft HPA engine and adapter — including the magazine and HPA adapters sold at https://primaryairsoft.us/ — a Standard Output regulator is required. The inline regulator mounted on your gun or adapter assembly is designed to take that 800+ PSI input and step it down to your desired operating pressure (usually 60–140 PSI for pistols and 100–180 PSI for rifles).
Running an SLP tank into a standard inline regulator starves the system. The input pressure falls below the regulator’s minimum operating threshold, resulting in severe velocity drop-off, inconsistent FPS, or failure to cycle. SLP tanks are purpose-built for specific paintball markers or the rare airsoft engine with an integrated macro-line regulator that accepts low-pressure input directly.
Pro tip: If you already own an SLP tank, you cannot simply "turn it up." You need a Standard Output regulator bonnet swap or a different tank. Match your tank output to your inline regulator’s specs — 99% of the time, that means Standard Output.
