HPA Line Routing for Pistol Magwells

Question:

What is the best way to route an HPA line when using a magwell adapter on a gas blowback pistol?

Answer:

Routing the airline is the most overlooked part of a pistol HPA conversion. A kinked or snagged line causes starvation, velocity drops, and mid-game failures. For magwell adapters — like those for the Hi-Capa, AAP-01, Glock, or MK23 — the line exits the bottom of the grip, making routing critical.

Internal routing (through the grip frame) is cleanest but requires drilling the frame or using a grip with a pre-cut channel. It protects the line completely but is irreversible on most polymer frames.

External routing along the outside of the grip is standard. Run the line down the dominant-hand side, secured with zip ties or Velcro straps anchored to the frame’s accessory rail or trigger guard. Leave a service loop (2–3 inches of slack) at the adapter so the magazine seats fully without tension. Avoid routing across the front strap — it interferes with a high grip.

Coiled vs. straight line: Coiled lines resist snagging on gear but add drag and can pull the adapter sideways under tension. Straight microbore (4 mm OD / 2.5 mm ID) polyurethane line is lighter, more flexible, and easier to route cleanly.

Quick-disconnect placement: Mount the QD on your belt or chest rig, not the gun. This lets you drop the pistol for transitions without dragging the tank.
