HPA Adapter Nozzle Length: Why It Dictates FPS
Question:
My HPA-tapped pistol shoots fine at the chrono, but FPS drops 30–40 feet per second during rapid fire. I’ve checked for leaks and regulator creep — everything looks clean. What am I missing?

You are likely dealing with a nozzle length mismatch between your HPA adapter and the specific magazine or hop-up unit you are running. This is one of the most overlooked variables in gas system tuning, yet it directly governs the air seal at the moment of firing.
Every GBB platform has a precise distance from the magazine gas route (or adapter nozzle tip) to the hop-up bucking lips. If the nozzle is too short, the seal breaks before the BB clears the bucking, venting pressure prematurely. If it is too long, the nozzle bottoms out against the hop-up chamber or bucking, preventing the bolt from cycling fully or creating drag that slows the cycle rate. Both scenarios cause FPS variance, but a short nozzle is the classic culprit for the "rapid fire drop-off" you described: the first shot seals well because the nozzle is at rest; subsequent shots suffer because the nozzle never fully reseats under speed.
