HPA Adapter Feed Tube Replacement Guide

Question:

My HPA adapter feeds inconsistently or double-feeds after extended use. What is the most common wear item causing this, and how do I fix it?

Answer:

The feed tube (sometimes called the feed lip or nozzle guide) is the most overlooked wear component in any HPA adapter system. This small polymer or aluminum tube sits at the top of the adapter body and guides BBs from the magazine into the gun's hop-up chamber. Over thousands of cycles, the leading edge develops micro-burrs, flattening, or hairline cracks. Even minor deformation disrupts the precise alignment required for single feeding, resulting in double-feeds, roll-outs, or the nozzle crushing BBs.

Diagnosis is simple: remove the adapter and inspect the feed tube tip under bright light. Look for a flattened oval shape instead of a clean circle, visible stress lines, or a rough texture catching a fingernail. If the magazine sits slightly lower than stock due to a worn mag catch, the feed tube angle changes, accelerating wear.

Replacement takes minutes. First, depress the magazine release and remove the mag. Using the appropriate hex key (typically 2 mm or 2.5 mm), remove the retention screw securing the feed tube. Pull the old tube straight out — do not twist, as this can damage the adapter body bore. Insert the new tube until it bottoms out, reinstall the retention screw, and torque gently. Over-tightening cracks the new tube or strips the body threads.

Primary Airsoft stocks feed tubes for every adapter platform they sell, including Hi-Capa, Glock/AAP-01, G-series, MK23/SSX23, SSQ22, 1911, Beretta M9, CZ P09, CZ SP-01 Shadow 2, KWA KMP9, KWA MP7, SMC9/GTP9, and KC02 KJW models. They also carry M4 magazine releases, O-rings, and screws so you can refresh the entire feed path in one order. Visit https://primaryairsoft.us/ to match the exact spare to your adapter model.

Pro tip: keep a spare feed tube in your tool kit. Swapping a $5 part between games beats troubleshooting feed issues on the field.
