HPA Adapter Compatibility: MP7 & KMP9
Question:
Can I run my KWA MP7 or KMP9 on HPA using a magazine adapter, and what magazines are supported?
Answer:
Yes. Both the KWA MP7 and KMP9 are popular candidates for HPA conversion because their gas magazines are the primary failure point in cold weather or high-rate-of-fire scenarios. An HPA adapter replaces the gas reservoir in the magazine body, feeding compressed air directly from a remote line and regulator. This delivers consistent velocity, eliminates cooldown, and removes the need for green gas top-offs mid-game.
Primary Airsoft offers dedicated HPA adapters for the KWA MP7 and KMP9 at https://primaryairsoft.us/. These units are machined to fit the specific magazine geometry and feed lips of the KWA platform. Critically, the MP7 and KMP9 adapters are configured to accept standard M4/AR-pattern AEG magazines. This allows you to run high-capacity drum mags or standard mid-caps, solving the low-capacity limitation of the stock 30–40 round gas magazines.
The adapter installs without permanent modification to the gun. You simply remove the magazine base plate, insert the adapter body, and secure it. An M4 magazine release catch is included, as the original KWA release geometry differs from M4 spec. Ensure your regulator is set to the manufacturer’s recommended input pressure—typically 80–120 PSI for these platforms—and chrono before play.
If you already own an adapter, spare parts like feed tubes, O-rings, M4 mag releases, and screws are available separately. This keeps the system serviceable long-term without replacing the entire unit. For players running an SMC9 or GTP9, note that those adapters also feed from M4 magazines, but the MP7/KMP9 units are not cross-compatible due to different magazine well dimensions.
