How do I store a GBB pistol long term without damaging the seals?

Answer:

Storing a gas blowback pistol correctly is essential for preserving its internal rubber seals, which are the most vulnerable components during extended periods of inactivity.

Release the magazine gas, but leave a small charge in the pistol's chamber area. Completely evacuating all gas causes rubber seals to dry out, crack, and lose their shape over time. Leaving a slight amount of green gas or CO2-compatible gas in the magazine helps maintain gentle pressure on the seals, keeping them supple.

Apply silicone oil before storage. Use 100% pure silicone oil — never petroleum-based lubricants, which degrade rubber seals rapidly. Apply a few drops through the magazine feed lips and cycle the slide several times to distribute the oil across internal O-rings and valves.

Store in a stable environment. Extreme temperature fluctuations cause seals to expand and contract repeatedly, accelerating wear. A cool, dry location away from direct sunlight is ideal. Avoid storing in a sealed hard case without any ventilation, as trapped moisture can promote corrosion on metal components.

Remove CO2 cartridges entirely. Unlike green gas, CO2 cartridges should not remain installed during long term storage, as residual pressure combined with temperature changes can stress seals significantly.

Following these steps every three to six months — even during storage — will keep your GBB pistol's seals in excellent condition and ensure reliable performance when you return to the field.
