Field Lock HPA Regulator: What Chrono Will Do to Your Rig

Showing up to a new field with an HPA pistol and wondering what the chrono staff will do to your reg? An r/airsoft player asked "How do fields lock your regulator?" Here's how a field lock HPA regulator check usually goes, and what it means on a pistol adapter.

Field lock HPA regulator basics: what happens at chrono?

Player report: most replies in that thread describe a zip tie through or around the regulator's adjustment point after you chrono. A lot of fields color-code the ties by limit, so staff can see at a glance which class you chronoed for. Some use serialized security tags or void-if-removed stickers. A few don't lock at all, and just re-chrono or kick out anyone who's hot.

Where the tie goes depends on your regulator, so ask staff to show you.

What does that mean for a pistol on an adapter?

Not much changes. Our product pages ask for a "paintball" tank with a low pressure regulator (0–140 psi), run near 120, never over 140. Set it where you'll play before you get in line, chrono, then let them lock it.

What if my reg has nowhere to put a tie?

Ask the field before game day. Will My Field Let Me Run HPA? covers the bigger rules questions.

I want to change something midday. Now what?

Ask staff before you change anything after the lock. Cut the tie with them watching, not by yourself in the staging area. Nothing ends a day faster.

What does the chrono actually measure?

Your FPS or joules with your BBs. Chrono Basics: What FPS and Joule Limits Mean explains the limits. A cable tie is about the most honest piece of tech at the field.

Should I bring my own ties?

Player report: an r/Speedsoft "HPA advice" thread says to keep zip ties in your bag for exactly this, even though most fields have them. They weigh nothing. Bring a few.
