Converting a Tokyo Marui MK23 to HPA

Question:

I want to run my Tokyo Marui MK23 (or SSX23) on HPA, but the fixed outer barrel and suppressor make standard adapters impossible to fit. What is the correct way to convert this platform without losing the ability to use a mock suppressor?

Answer:

The Tokyo Marui MK23 and its clones (like the Novritsch SSX23) use a unique magazine design where the gas route seal sits deep inside the mag body, directly behind the feed lips. Unlike Hi-Capas or Glocks, the base plate is not removable in a way that allows a standard bottom-plate HPA adapter to clear the frame. Additionally, the fixed outer barrel and integral suppressor thread leave zero clearance for side-mounted hose exits or bulky magwell adapters.

The only reliable solution is a purpose-built MK23/SSX23 HPA magazine adapter that replaces the magazine's internal base plate assembly. These adapters sit flush with the bottom of the magazine, routing the airline straight down. This preserves the pistol's slim profile, allowing it to fit in standard holsters and—critically—keeping the path clear for barrel-mounted suppressors or tracers.

Primary Airsoft stocks these platform-specific internal adapters at https://primaryairsoft.us/, alongside versions for the Hi-Capa, AAP-01, G-Series, Beretta M9, KWA MP7, and MP5 magwells. Because the MK23 magazine holds a large gas volume, switching to HPA via an internal adapter yields instant benefits: consistent FPS shot-to-shot, elimination of cooldown, and the ability to tune velocity precisely via your regulator.

Pair the adapter with a green gas nozzle (also available at the store) if your stock nozzle shows wear, ensuring a perfect seal with the hop-up bucking. Set your regulator to 100–120 PSI for field-legal velocities with 0.30g–0.32g BBs. This setup transforms the MK23 from a temperature-sensitive novelty into a consistent, primary-ready sniper sidearm.
