If your internals are mostly stock, a 7.4v is generally the recommended choice to avoid premature wear on gears, pistons, and the motor itself.

An 11.1v LiPo delivers significantly faster trigger response and a higher rate of fire, making it popular among players running upgraded internals. However, running 11.1v through an unupgraded gearbox can accelerate wear and increase the risk of component failure. To safely use an 11.1v, your build should ideally include a reinforced piston, quality gears rated for higher speeds, and a MOSFET to protect your trigger contacts.

From a field perspective, some sites place restrictions on rate of fire rather than voltage directly, and semi-auto-only requirements are common in North America, which can reduce the practical advantage of 11.1v for many players.
