Balance Charging a LiPo Battery for Your AEG

Question:

How do I balance charge a LiPo battery for my AEG?

Answer:

Balance charging a LiPo battery is essential for maximizing battery lifespan and maintaining safe operation in your AEG. Unlike standard charging, balance charging monitors and equalizes the voltage across each individual cell, preventing dangerous overcharging or undercharging of any single cell.

To balance charge your LiPo, you will need a dedicated LiPo-compatible balance charger. Most LiPo batteries used in AEGs are either 2S (7.4V) or 3S (11.1V) configurations. Connect your battery's main discharge lead to the charger's appropriate port, then connect the smaller balance lead to the corresponding balance port on the charger. This balance connector typically has one more pin than the number of cells.

Set your charger to LiPo balance mode and select the correct cell count matching your battery. A safe charge rate is generally 1C, meaning you charge at a current equal to the battery's capacity rating — for example, a 1600mAh battery would charge at 1.6 amps.

Never leave a charging LiPo unattended, and always charge on a non-flammable surface or inside a fireproof LiPo charging bag. Once the charger indicates the charge is complete, disconnect immediately.

Storing LiPo batteries at around 3.8V per cell is widely recommended when not in use for extended periods, as many chargers include a dedicated storage mode for this purpose.
